Lexie Laura is an author, poet, and passionate storyteller who writes with a pen dipped in truth, trauma, and triumph. A proud Indigenous woman, Lexie’s work is rooted in reclaiming stories long buried, stories of survival, motherhood, justice, and healing. Her words are not just written, they’re felt.
A three-time cancer survivor with a mechanical heart valve and a spirit that refuses to quit, Lexie has walked through fire, literally and figuratively, and emerged with a voice that speaks for those often unheard. Her journey has been marked by devastating loss, including the deaths of her three young children, and yet she continues to rise, giving voice to pain, resilience, and radical love.
Lexie is the author of Mud Blood, a raw and unforgettable debut exploring Indigenous identity, family secrets, and the scars left by the past. Her second book, Pulling the Rope Together, is a testimony to the power of chosen family and collective healing. In all her work, Lexie weaves together poetry, prose, and memory with a fierce commitment to truth and cultural preservation.
Lexie holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of the Rockies Global Campus, now known as the University of Arizona Global Campus, earned in 2020. Her academic journey also includes a Master of Arts in Psychology (2018), a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude (2016), and an Associate of Arts in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude (2014), all from Ashford University in California. She is a proud member of both the Golden Key International Honour Society and the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, inducted in 2013.
She currently resides in Virginia, where she enjoys cooking, creating coloring books, researching ancestral history, and spending time with her beloved pup pack. Lexie pours her heart into every dish, every page, and every relationship, especially with her partner, who remains her rock and muse.
She believes in forgiveness but writes like a woman who remembers.
Lexie Laura’s mission is simple and powerful: to honor the ancestors, to speak the unspeakable, and to create art that heals. If you're reading this, welcome. You're now part of the rope.
